2002 New Digital Camera Announcements to date:

 

  1. Minolta Dimage X - (01/08/02) The year started out with the mysterious announcement by Minolta of the Dimage X, a tiny, thin 2 megapixel camera with an amazing 3X zoom lens that does not stick out from the camera. While we have handled several models at a special press event called the Digital Experience at CES 2002 on Jan. 8th, and it was under glass at the SD media pavilion inside CES, PMA was a great opportunity to see the final version and prints of this new marvel up close and have it explained by Minolta reps at the show.
  2. Minolta Dimage S404 - (01/08/02) This 4 megapixel version of the current 3 meg Dimage S304 was also announced and early versions shown at the Digital Experience media event on January 8, in Las Vegas. Final production models will be shown for the first time at a Trade Show event at PMA 2002. Full featured, this was a bit bigger then others, although much like the Canon G2 in size and weight.
  3. Sony Mavica FD 100 - (01/08/02) Announced at CES but only shown privately, this 1.3 megapixel CCD dual media camera is now available in retail stores. It features the ability to save pictures onto Memory Sticks and then copy them over to Floppy disks to share easily.
  4. Sony Mavica FD 200 - (01/08/02) Also announced at CES but not shown to the public, this is a 2 megapixel CCD camera with both a Floppy drive and Memory Stick slot. We have tested a review model and posted our findings along with sample images from a final production model. Cick Here for our review comments and sample images.
  5. Panasonic DMC-LC5 - (01/08/02) Announced/Shown for the USA market at CES, this 4 megapixel camera with full manual controls has many great features. We have exclusive CES coverage posted at this link along with the Panasonic Press Release with prices. We expect to see more units for handling and final production units we can take sample pictures with. At CES we were told to expect these cameras in March. The cameras use SD memory cards for storage of pictures.Panasonic has a press conference at 9:00 am Sunday, so we will update you then.
  6. Panasonic DMC-LC40 - (01/08/02) Announced at CES for USA, this is a 4 megapixel camera with few manual controls but still a very nice looking camera. See our CES page for pictures and details.
  7. Panasonic DMC-LC20 - (01/08/02) Announced for the USA at CES 2002, this is a 2 megapixel camera, also using SD media for storage of images. We were able to handle all of the new Panasonics at CES 2002.
  8. Panasonic DMC-F7 - (01/08/02) Announced and shown for the USA market at CES 2002, this is a more compact 2 megapixel camera.
  9. Casio GV-10 - (01/08/02) Announced for the USA market at CES 2002, this is a water resistant 1.3 outdoor camera, for the fun of it all. (Check out the link for a picture of the GV-10 in a tank of water as shown at CES 2002.
  10. HP PhotoSmart 812 - (01/08/02) Announced during a keynote speech at CES and shown at the Digital Experience show later that night the camera was not shown on the CES trade show floor, so PMA will be the first opportunity for most to see and handle this tiny new 4 megapixel camera. We have used it and have photos from CES at this link. We really liked the small size and light weight, but the unit we saw was a bit slow. Let's see how it turned out at PMA!
  11. FujiFilm FinePix S2 Pro SLR - (01/29/02) Announced for the upcoming PMA show late last month, this is a 6 megapixel new SuperCCD version III pro camera with a Nikon mount for use of interchangeable lenses. PMA will be the first time we see very early versions of this camera.
  12. FujiFilm FinePix S602 - (01/29/02) Also announced for the PMA show, this is an update to the current FinePix 6900 using a new 3 megapixel version of the SuperCCD. It has great video features and a 6X zoom lens. We hope to see early pre-production versions of this at PMA
  13. FujiFilm FinePix F601 - (01/29/02) This is an update to the current Finepix 6800. It is a compact 3X zoom camera which can act as a web cam.
  14. FujiFilm Finepix 30i - (02/05/02) This is a tiny 2 megapixel camera with Mp3 music abilities.
  15. Sigma SD9 SLR - (02/12/02) The $3000.00 camera that has gained a lot of press and attention. This is the first digital camera to use the new Foveon X3 Image Sensor, a technology which has taken us all by storm. We have lots of hands on info. & pictures of a pre-production working unit at this SD9 PMA link.
  16. Sony Mavica CD400 - (02/20/02) The MVC-CD400 captures images with 4.0 megapixel (effective) resolution and 3X optical zoom with CD capability.
  17. Sony Mavica CD250 - (02/20/02) The MVC-CD250 captures images with 2.0 megapixel (effective) resolution and 3X optical zoom with CD capability.
  18. Sony Cyber-shot DCS-P31 - (02/20/02) The new DSC-P31 is smaller than the other two models and offers 2.0 megapixels (effective) resolution and 3x digital zoom.
  19. Sony Cyber-shot DCS-P51 - (02/20/02) This camera offers 2.0 megapixels (effective) resolution and 2x optical zoom.
  20. Sony Cyber-shot DCS-P71 - (02/20/02) This camera offers 3.2 megapixels (effective) resolution and 3x optical zoom.
  21. Nikon D100 - (02/21/02) This is a high-performance digital SLR camera, a 6.1 effective megapixel camera.
  22. Nikon Coolpix 2500 - (02/21/02) a stylish pocket-sized 2.0 million effective pixel digital camera featuring the world's first inner-swivel lens design.
  23. Canon EOS D60 - (02/22/02) This is a 6.3 Megapixel SLR camera with interchangeable lenses aimed for pros and advanced amateurs.
  24. Canon A100 - (02/22/02) The PowerShot A100 is Canon's first true entry-level digital camera with 1.2 megapixel CCD with movie mode.
  25. Canon A30 - (02/22/02) This is a 1.2 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom lens with movie mode (without sound).
  26. Canon A40 - (02/22/02) This is a 2 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom lens and movie mode with sound.
  27. Kodak DX4900 - (02/23/02) The Kodak EasyShare DX4900 is part of the Kodak EasyShare system that combines a 4.0 megapixel camera with one touch simplicity.
  28. Toshiba PDR-T10 - (02/23/02) This is a small pocket-size 2-megapixel camera that uses its LCD monitor as an interactive touch-screen to control its functions.
  29. Toshiba PDR-3310 - (02/23/02) This is an ultra-compact 3-megapixel camera with loads of features and a full 3x optical zoom.
  30. Toshiba PDR-3300 - (02/23/02) This is an an affordable 3-megapixel digicam equipped with a 2.8x Canon zoom lens.
  31. Pentax Optio 230 - (02/23/02) A compact 2 megapixel camera with a 3X optical zoom. Check out the link to the Pentax web site for full details, features and specs. Here is a link to the press release.
  32. Kyocera Finecam S4 - (02/24/02) This is a compact 3.87 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom and pop-up flash.
  33. Kyocera Finecam S3X - (02/24/02) This is a compact 3.14 megapixel camera with 3x digital zoom with pop-up flash.
  34. Leicia Digilux 1 - (02/24/02) This is a 4 megapixel camera with full manual controls, 3X Leicia optical zoom lens and using newer & smaller SD media cards. This is essentially the same camera as the Panasonic DMC-LC5
  35. Konica Revio KD-400Z - (02/24/02) This is a 4 megapixel camer with a 3X optical zoom which uses Sony's Memory Sticks for storage.
  36. Konica Revio KD-310Z - (02/24/02) This is a 3 megapixel camera with a 3X otpcial zoom, also uses the Sony Memory Stick.
  37. SiPix SC 2300 - (02/24/02) This is a 2 megapixel point and shoot camera with no optical zoom lens, but at only $179.
  38. Samsung Digimax 410 - (02/24/02) A new 4 megapixel camera with a 3X optical zoom in a nice looking body. We have seen and taken pictures of the new Samsungs at PMA 2002.
  39. Samsung Digimax 350SE - (02/24/02) A 3 megapixel camera with a 3X optical zoom. Fairly nice looking cameras, however Samsung is newer in the market and we have not seen many reviews yet.
  40. Samsung Digimax 340 - (02/24/02) This is a somewhat less expensive 3 megapixel camera with a 3X optical zoom.
  41. Samsung Digimax 230 - (02/24/02) A 2 megapixel camera with a 3X optical zoom lens.
  42. Contax N Digital - (02/24/02) A full framed 6 megapixel CCD DSLR camera matched with Carl Zeiss Lenses. This camera has just started shipping from Ritz (use our link to Ritz from our banner ads) but at a price over 6 grand.
  43. Sony DSC P9 - (03/12/02) This is a very compact and lightweight point and shoot 4 megapixel camera with 3X optical zoom lens that follows the design of the Sony P5, with some new features.
  44. Canon Powershot S330 - (03/13/02) An updated Digital Elph S300 camera with 2 megapixels and a full 3X zoom lens.
  45. Canon Powershot S200 - (03/13/02) This is an updated Digital Elph S100, with an even smaller body and thus the 2 megapixel camera has a smaller 2X optical zoom.
  46. Minolta Dimage 7i (03/13/02) - This is an updated & improved version of last year's Dimage 7, featuring a 5 megapixel CCD and 7X optical zoom.
  47. Minolta Dimage F100 - (03/13/02) - This camera is an fairly compact 4 megapixel camera with manual exposure controls and a 3X optical zoom. It also has a nice predictive focus feature, where it tracks moving subjects within the frame. It looks similar to the Sony DSC-P9.
  48. Casio Exilim EX-S1 - (03/14/02) This is a tiny & very thin 1.3 megapixel camera with no optical zoom
  49. Casio Exilim EX-M1 - (03/14/02) This is also a tiny/thin 1.3 megapixel camera with no optical zoom, but has a MP3 player built in.
  50. FujiFilm Axia EyePlate - (03/15/02) This is a credit card sized, extremely thin VGA camera using sMal technology, which fits into a wallet.
  51. Olympus D-520Z - (03/18/02) This is a point & shoot style 2 megapixel camera with a 3X optical zoom lens.
  52. Olympus D-380 - (03/18/02) This is a 2 megapixel point & shoot sytle camera with no optical zoom at a low price.
  53. Nixian Nexicam - (04/10/02) This is a SVGA camera made for the Compaq iPaq Handheld PDA.
  54. Logitech Pocket Digital - (04/17/02) This is a $129 slim credit card sized VGA camera using sMal technology.
  55. Kodak Easyshare LS420 - (04/22/02) This is a 2 megapixel point & shoot camera with a 3X optical zoom for $299.
  56. Olympus C-720UZ - (05/08/02) This is a 3 megapixel camera with an huge 8X optical zoom in a farily small body.
  57. Olympus D-550Z - (05/08/02) This is a 3 megapixel version of the D-520Z, with a full 3X optical zoom in a point & shoot style camera using AA batteries and a sliding lens cover design.
  58. Kodak CX 4230 - (05/21/02) This is a small 2 megapixel camera with 3X optical zoom for $249. New one-touch features. Also comes with new EasyShare software for more one-touch operation of printing, e-mailing, storage, viewing and simple editing. A dock is also available for use with this camera.
  59. Sony DSC-P7 - (05/29/02) This is a very compact 3 megapixel version of the P9 point & shoot style pocket camera with a 3X optical zoom.
  60. Sony DSC-P2 - (05/29/02) A 2 megapixel version of the P9 and P7 cameras.
  61. Nikon Coolpix 5700 - (05/29/02) This is a 5 megapixel camera with a huge 8X optical zoom lens and high end features. The body is similar to the Nikon Coolpix 5000, with a bigger 8X zoom lens instead. Has Raw image feature added.
  62. Nikon Coolpix 4500 - (05/29/02) This is a 4 megapixel camera with a 4X zoom lens, in a swivel design yet smaller then the Coolpix 990/995 cameras, and featuring a new pop-up lens.
  63. Nikon Coolpix 2000 - (05/29/02) This is a new point and shoot style 2 megapixel camera with a 3X optical zoom.
  64. Fuji FinePix F401 - (05/30/02) This is a 2 megapixel camera with a 3X optical zoom lens, can be used as a web cam.
  65. Canon Powershot A200 - (06/06/02) This is a 2 megapixel camera with a 3X optical zoom, uses AA batteries, direct prints to new CD-100 4 by 6 inch portable printer, and accepts add on lens, with some manual controls.
  66. Pentax Optio 430RS - (06/06/02) Updated Optio 430, a 4 megapixel camera with a 3X zoom lens in a very small body. Has a unique 3D image feature.
  67. Pentax Optio 330RS - (06/06/02) Updated Optio 330, a 3 megapixel camera with a 3X zoom lens in a very small body.
  68. Toshiba PDR-3300 - (06/08/02) A new 3.2 megapixel digital camera with a 2.8 optical zoom lens & picture storage on new SecureDigital memory cards, at the relatively low price of $349
  69. Toshiba PDR-T20 - (06/21/02) A two megapixel digital camera featuring a 1.5 inch color touchscreen LCD that replaces most buttons, at a price of $399.
  70. Argus DC3510 - (07/08/02) A 2 megapixel digital camera will sell for around $149. It has no optical zoom, but does have a 2X digital zoom, a 1.5 inch LCD monitor and built-in flash and it uses the new smaller SD memory cards. It can also be used as a PC Cam for video conferencing.
  71. Olympus Camedia C-4000 Zoom - (07/09/02) A 4 Megapixel digital camera with a f/2.8, 3X optical zoom lens, full manual operation and other advanced photographic features with a suggested price under $500.
  72. HP Photosmart 320 - (07/29/02) $149 2 megapixel camera, no optical zoom, uses SD media.
  73. HP Photosmart 620 - (07/29/02) $199 Also a 2 megapixel camera, with a 3X optical zoom.
  74. HP Photosmart 720 - (07/29/02) $299 A 3.24 megapixel camera with 3X optical and using SD memory cards.
  75. Fuji Finepix A200 - (08/01/02) 2 megapixel camera, Lightweight and one of the smallest and lightest camera in its category - measuring a mere 3.9" W x 2.5" H x 1.6" D and weighing only 4.7 ounces. Movies but no sound, can function as a pc web camera. Uses new XD storage cards. No optical zoom - $189
